Abstract: Based on reviewing the history of the development of manufacturing technologies and that of advanced manufacturing technologies in the developed countries such as America, Japan, et al, and E.E.C., the significance to develop manufacturing technologies is discussed and many types of advanced manufacturing technologies are summarized. The development of manufacturing technologies reflects the trends of the traditional manufacturing technologies in the 21 century towards the information, service, and high-technology driven manufacturing with the globalization of manufacturing market, the strengthening of competitiveness, the individuality of requirement and the humanity of production. The future patterns of several key-manufacturing technologies that compose the development prospect of manufacturing technologies in the 21 century are predicted and the application examples of some of these technologies are given. Finally, it is predicted that the development of nano-technology will lead to new industrial revolution in the 2050s according to the history of the development of science & technology and industrial revolution. The strategy for developing advanced manufacturing technologies is put forward with the aim that the new industrial revolution will take place in China. The subject of this paper is that “ lose manufacturing, lose the future ”.
