Biographical notes
XU Yanshen (1936-2006), male, was a professor in School of Mechanical
Engineering, Tianjin University, China. Prof. XU had made significant
contributions to research and advancement of the fields of machine
tools, engineering design and innovation, and manufacturing processes.
He has supervised a large number of graduate students to completion. The
co-authors are forever grateful for his mentorship and friendship.
CHEN Yongliang, born in 1972, male, is an associated professor in School
of Mechanical Engineering, Tianjin University, China. He received his
PhD degree from School of Mechanical Engineering, Tianjin University,
China, in 2000. His research interests include CAD/CAM/CAE, adaptable
design, rapidly response design and manufacturing technology.

ZHANG Guojun, born in 1972, male, is a professor and a vice dean in
School of Mechanical Sciences and Engineering, Huazhong University of
Science and Technology, China. He is recipient of New Century Talent
awarded by the Ministry of Education, China. Prof. ZHANG holds a large
number of grants including the major project grants such as 973
Programs, 863 Programs, and research grants from National Natural
Science Foundation of China. His research interests include adaptable
design, design reuse, manufacturing systems and planning.

GU Peihua, born in 1953, male, is a professor and a vice president in
Shantou University, China, and holds a Changjiang scholar (chair
professorship) in Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China.
He is also a professor in Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing
Engineering, University of Calgary, Canada. He is a fellow of Canadian
Academy of Engineering and a fellow of CIRP. His research interests
include adaptable design, robust design, CAD/CAM and rapid
manufacturing.
