Abstract: The lubrication oil temperature overrun fault of wind turbine gearbox is one of the most frequent faults in some wind farms. Aimed at this overrun fault, the thermodynamic behaviours of the internal parts and external circulation cooling system of wind turbine gearbox are studied based on the analysis of the gearbox structure and its operation control strategy. Then, the thermal network model of wind turbine gearbox is proposed. In this model, the temperature of each node is calculated by the established thermodynamic equations of transient and steady-state temperature. Combined with the thermodynamic behaviour of wind turbine gearbox, the computation of heat source and thermal resistance between nodes in the heat exchange process are studied for the thermodynamic equations. After that, the calculation process of the wind turbine gearbox thermal network model is formed. Consequently, the thermal network model and its calculation process are applied to simulate the gearbox oil temperature, the high-speed HSS-A B C bearing temperature and the gearbox inlet oil temperature of a typical 1.5 MW wind turbine gearbox under working condition. The compared results between simulated values and measured values show that the established thermal network model is effective for wind turbine gearbox oil temperature overrun fault. Moreover, the error analysis of the simulated values and measured values also provides a direction for further fine modelling.
