Abstract: The nose cone of aerospace vehicle plays an important role in optimizing the aerodynamic configuration. A morphing nose cone is designed by mimicking the deformable mechanism of honeybee abdomen. The X-ray phase-contrast imaging technique and Amira software are used to perform the non-destructive scanning and three-dimensional reconstruction on the honeybee abdomen. Experimental results show that there are 12 bundles of muscles between the adjacent segments. A 2(3-SPR) parallel-serial driving mechanism is evolved from the intersegmental structures based on the screw theory and technical specifications, and the kinematic analysis is carried out. The folded intersegmental membrane is studied by using scanning electron microscope analysis technology and a conical metamorphic foldable mechanism is developed by integrating the metamorphic mechanism. Then, a segmental morphing nose cone is designed, which is assembled from 2(3-SPR) parallel-serial driving mechanism, conical metamorphic foldable mechanism and body wall. It is significant for the aerospace vehicle to meet the deformation requirements in different flight stages.
