Precision Design and Control-performance Manufacturing Research of Large-size Individualized PEEK Implants

Abstract: Every year, 98% of patients in China become functionally restricted due to the lack of ideal individualized artificial implants. The design and manufacture methods of individualized implants has become a key factor of China's transformation from experience medicine to precision medicine. Poly-ether-ether-ketone (PEEK) material is generally considered to be one of the most ideal materials for individual implants at present. However, PEEK's special properties, manufacturing process characteristics, and clinical application environment should be considered to build the complex structure of individual PEEK implants (especially large scale implants). Therefore, a precision design method and a control-performance 3d printing method are put forward for the individualized PEEK implants, which established some guiding principles of design and manufacturing process. A case about extensive chest wall repaired by a large-size individualized PEEK implant is described to show the specific process of the precision design and control-performance manufacturing method.
