Abstract: A new type of settings with the cone-cylinder match guide rollers for the through-feed superfinishing of tapered rollers with crown is proposed. The rear guide roller adopts cylindrical surface, so as to be shared by the different specifications of tapered rollers. The front guide roller adopts the spiral and conical surface, and is specially matched for only one specification of the tapered roller. The simplified analysis on the roller posture in corresponding to the cone-cylinder match guide rollers is performed. The result shows that this is a through-feed superfinishing with specifically oblique roller posture and the roller crown can be obtained. According to the principle of conjugating surfaces, the equations of the ideal surface profile of the guide rollers for common through-feed superfinishing with oblique roller posture are established. The surface profiles as well as the roller posture in corresponding to the cone-cylinder match guide rollers are analyzed by numerical calculation according to the equations, and some conclusions are drown as follows:For common through-feed superfinishing with oblique roller posture, the ideal surface profile of the front guide roller and the rear one are usually slightly concave curves which are oblique with respect to the axis of the guide rollers, but there is a specifically oblique roller posture which can make the curve of the rear guide roller change to be not oblique but only slightly concave; For the type of settings with cone-cylinder match guide rollers, the cylindrical surface is a approximation of the ideal surface of the rear guide roller, and there is shape error on it; The shape error is usually not more than 4 μm, and there is no obvious effect on the support stability of the rollers. The exact methods to calculating the shape error of the cylindrical guide roller, the surface profile parameters of the cone guide roller and the roller posture parameters are given.
