Abstract: Performance constraint satisfaction is a crucial factor in complex product design. Traditional conceptual design methods mainly focus on the mapping of function-structure and reasoning process, however, the evolution rule on performance in solving process is rarely mentioned. Then performance in design process will exist some problems such as context isolation and location failure. In response, a novel solving process of conceptual design based on performance evolution is proposed. By analyzing the performance characteristics, a performance evolution model integrating desired performance, behavior performance and structural performance is put forward. Then the analytic calculation process is conducted, which is included of importance analysis for desired performance identification, unit planning for behavior performance balancing and scheme generation for structural performance adaption. The conceptual design process based on performance evolution is presented to support performance cognition, performance optimization and performance computation. Finally, a case study is given to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed approach.
