Abstract:

The fretting wear of two press-fitted hollow axles with different interference grips is simulated by the numerical method based on Archard method within ABAQUS. The evolution of the surface profile and the distributions of the contact parameters with fretting cycles are investigated and compared with those of the solid press-fitted axle with one kind of interference grips. The results show that when the interference grip and the load condition is the same, the wear depth of hollow axle is bigger than that of the solid axle. The influences of fretting wear on the contact parameters of hollow axle with the increase of fretting cycles are the same as those of solid axle. With the increase of fretting cycles, the peak value of the contact pressure and the shear stress increases as well as the slip amplitude, the location of the peak value of the contact pressure moves inward toward the contact zone, the location of the peak value of the shear stress shifts from the stick-slip boundary to the worn-unworn boundary and moves inward toward the contact zone. It is also found that the wear depth of hollow axle will decrease with the increasing of interference grip.
