Abstract: Biological soft tissue cutting mechanism research for biomedical application background has become a hot focus in recent years. It is very meaningful for understanding biological soft tissue cutting mechanism to qualitatively analysis the cutting characteristics of different biological soft tissues from the view of the effect of three components of biological soft tissue. Three typical biological soft tissues (tendon with many collage fibers, ascending aorta with many elastomers and stomach muscle with a large amount of smooth muscle cells) are selected to carry out cutting experiments on a soft tissue cutting apparatus designed and fabricated by our group. The cutting characteristics of three typical biological soft tissues are analyzed from the view of cutting force, tissue deformation, cutting energy and local stiffness. The effect of three components of biological soft tissue on cutting characteristics is qualitatively analyzed. Collagen fiber has an important influence on the cutting force of biological soft tissue; the elastomer has a significant impact on the tissue cutting deformation; however the smooth muscle cell has little effect on both cutting force and tissue cutting deformation.
