Application of Hydro-viscous Driver in TBM Cutter-head Driving Technology

Abstract: Aiming at developing an effective driving technology for tunnel boring machine(TBM) cutter-head ,which is often trapped during construction. The main features of new driving technology are: the driving system consists two kinds of driving devices, variable frequency motor driving device and breakout driving device.The breakout driving device consists of an AC asynchronism motor and a hydro-viscous driver(HVD). The calculating result shows: the new cutter-head driver has a significantly-improved breakout performance than the existing ones. The key technology of the new cutter-head driver is the control of the HVD. By analyzing the temperature characteristics of the HVD, based on which the route of the clutch torque control is set. To make sure that the drive torque change the route, torque transfer mechanism of HVD is then analyzed. The simulation results show that the new cutter-head driving system has a stronger breakout driving ability than the existing driving system.
