Investigation on the Fluid Dynamics in Spindle Bearings under Typical Operating Conditions

Abstract: A research is conducted to address the issue of unclear internal flow characteristics of the main spindle bearing in aircraft engines. A fluid dynamics model for the main spindle bearing in the typical minimum plane domain of the unit clearance is built. The study investigates the relationship between lubrication performance parameters (such as clearance, oil air ratio, speeds, and cage aperture). The influence of bearing structural parameters on lubrication effectiveness is determined, and the impact mechanism of oil-air distribution characteristics in the main spindle bearing is revealed. An effective method for analyzing the flow characteristics of the main spindle bearing is developed. The results show that a higher oil phase ratio and smaller clearance result in higher pressure peaks in the bearing chamber. The maximum flow velocity in the unit area of the bearing chamber is mainly influenced by the flow velocity and positively correlated with it. The research findings are of great significance for the optimization design of the main spindle bearing structure.
