Abstract: Many controlling parameters are involved in shot peen forming, but fixed constraint of component is usually neglected, resulting in the deviation and instability of peen forming curvatures and elongation. The classical analysis of peen forming is based on the condition that the component is totally fixed in peening process. However, since the large size of peen forming component, and the weakness or the change of fixed constraint, the actual peening forming is performed under weak fixed constraint. Under both critical conditions:total fixation and free fixation, the evolution of peening stress, forming curvature and elongation are analyzed. A method is proposed that the peening process is separated into several stages by introducing a parameter J to equivalently represent the actual weak fixed condition. For the total fixation, J is 1. For the free fixation, J approaches infinity. With the reduction of fixation strength, J increases. The results indicate that peening residual stress, forming curvature and elongation increase with the value of J. The proposed method and obtained results can promote the design of peen forming parameters and the accuracy of forming effects prediction.
