Abstract: A new field of collecting energy is opened up because of the invention of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENG). With simple structure, low cost and great efficiency of collecting various forms of low-frequency water energy, solid-liquid triboelectric nanogenerator (SL-TENG) is based on the coupling of contact electrification on the solid-liquid interface and the electrostatic induction. It is occupied an important position in the field of TENG. The mechanism of liquid-solid contact electrification, typical structure and working mode are elaborated. The influence of the properties of liquid friction materials and solid friction materials on the output performance of TENG are analyzed. Several common micro/nano-structure fabrication methods are reviewed for enhancing the performances of TENG. A series of application researches in triboelectric self-powered sensors and self-powered microsystems are summarized. The remaining challenges and potential opportunities for the future development of SL-TENG are discussed.
