Abstract: As the key issue in pavement engineering, vehicle-road interaction is essential for evaluating driving safety and comfort, the road surface characteristics and the evolution of pavement diseases. The vehicle vibration caused by pavement roughness will affect driving comfort, and cause damage to the road with different degrees. Vehicle-type-road is a coupling system. Due to the complexity and the randomness of factors, the independent methods with multi scales lack effective interaction, resulting in the applicability of different indicators is not good enough. Therefore, referred to the existing models in pavement engineering, the macroscopic mechanical response of pavement, multi-scale characterization of pavement texture, and evaluation of skid resistance considering micro tread pattern are summarized. The key issues such as the temporal evolution of pavement surface texture, determination of vehicle instability caused by hydroplaning, and the micro-contact characteristics of asphalts concrete mixtures are analyzed. Evaluation indexes are proposed based on the existing research results. Finally, the future development direction of vehicle road interaction is prospected from the perspective of pavement engineering.
