Research on Parametric Design System of Micro-mills

Abstract: At present, the demand for sophisticated equipment for high precision and complex micro structural parts is increasing. The need for specialize in micro-mills challenges the flexibility and accuracy of tool design. The following problems exist in the field of micro-mills design:The design method for traditional milling cutter is no longer applicable because of scale difference, and the optimization of cutting process is separated from the tool design process. Aiming at the above problems, studying the new design method of micro-mills and develops the design system of it. Based on UG/Open, the 3D model template of the micro-mills is established and its geometric features are deconstructed. Through expression function, the geometric features of the tools are connected in series, and then driven by program programming. Finally, based on the UG secondary development platform, the system is driven by the processing needs, with the workpiece material, processing technology and other factors as the constraint conditions, through the tool geometric characteristics, the tool design parameters and cutting effect combined, and finally developed the parametric design system of micro-mills.
