Ultrasonic Detection Triangle Matrix Focus Imaging Algorithm

Abstract: Ultrasonic phased array technology has been developed rapidly in recent years and is widely used in industrial non-destructive testing. Full matrix focusing method has been widely researched and proved to be some advantages such as good signal to noise ratio and high resolution image, however, it still has some challenges in large amount data acquisition and processing, which limits its application in industry. In order to solve this kind of problem, a triangular matrix focusing algorithm is proposed based on the channel reciprocity of the transmitter and receiver. With the help of the triangular matrix focusing algorithm, both data acquisition and processing can be simplified. In order to prove the validity of this provided algorithm, the specimens with crack and flat-bottomed hole and side-drilled holes are used to test and analyze. It has been shown these signals are in good agreement by exchanging the transmitter and receiver. The signal-to-noise ratio of the image captured by the triangular matrix focusing algorithm coincide to those captured by full matrix focused method. At the same time both data acquisition and computational efficiency using the triangular matrix focusing algorithm have been improved significantly.
