Geological Adaptaive Design Method and Application of TBM Cutterhead

Abstract: The cutterhead is the core component of the full-face rock tunnel boring machine (TBM). The geologic adaptability of the structure is the key factor in determining the TBM efficiency. The basic process of cutterhead design is formulated based on the actual needs of designing cutterhead in TBM manufacturing enterprises. The key parameters calculation models of cutter layout, opening, and cutterhead body design are established by combining geology parameters, cutterhead structure parameters and tunneling parameters. The TBM cutterhead design method is applied to some water supply project. The parameters of TBM cutter layout, the driving performance of the cutterhead, tunneling parameters and cutterhead structure parameters are designed geology-adaptively. The performance of the design program is simulated and analyzed. The research results show that the cutterhead design method can effectively achieve that the cutterhead structure, the cutter layout and the relevant tunneling parameters are designed geology-adaptively. The mechanical properties of the cutterhead is designed to meet the construction requirements. At present the cutterhead has tunnelled 12 km in the water supply project and work well.
