Abstract: Polyaniline powder is used as conductive additives in grease to synthesize electric force compounded grease. The volume resistance and the contacting resistance of the greases are measured, and the tribological properties are studied with a reciprocating friction/wear testing machine under iron/bronze and iron/iron contacting at room temperature. SEM and EDS are utilized to observe and analyze the friction area after test. The results shows that the polyaniline powder additive can reduce the volume resistance by 2 orders of magnitude; the best friction reduction effects appear at the polyaniline concentration of 2%, while the anti-wear property at 5%. By using EDS, it is known that the polyaniline additive can generate nitrogen containing compounds on top of the substrate metal and meanwhile inhibit the reactions between oxygen and metal.
