Research on Aerodynamic Characteristic of Φ Type Wind Turbine Affected by Interference Air

Abstract: Within the path circle of lift-type vertical axis wind turbine(VAWT), two azimuth angle whose attack angle of blade is zero create negative brake torque, which need positive power to overcome and greatly lower the whole performance of wind turbine. A new technology that an interference air is used to rebuilding the flow field of blade with zero attack angles is put forward to promote power output. USA Sandia experimental Φ-type VAWT with 2 m diameter and 2 m height is researched as object. Research on the effect of interference air on attack angle, tangential force and normal force of blade element in equatorial R, 0.8R and 0.6R, are conducted based on multiply stream-tubes model. The calculation results showInterference air greatly promote the performance of blade element at two azimuth angle from a zero value to a high positive value; further, in 180° rotation angle the extent of effect is increased with blade element diameter decreasing. These results prove that the interference airflows are able to effectively promote the aerodynamic characteristics of two zero attack angle regions.
