Abstract: The tilt between inner rings and outer rings of high-speed angular contact ball bearings is always existed to some extent because of manufacturing and assembly errors. When a certain limit value of the tilt is exceeded, their accuracy, stiffness, temperature rise and life can be severely affected. The permissible tilt angle cannot be reflected accurately by current methods because centrifugal effects and lubrication film effects are ignored. An analytical model is established to calculate bearing dynamic characteristics in which tilt, centrifugal effect and lubrication are taken into account. The corresponding software is developed. A typical example is analyzed by the developed software and SKF TABACY. They are in good agreement when centrifugal effects and lubrication are not considered. However, it is more reasonable for analyzing centrifugal and lubrication effects. The influence of ring tilt angle on bearing dynamic characteristics is further studied with consideration of centrifugal effect and lubrication. The permissible tilt angle is proposed to guarantee bearing life.
