Abstract: Abrasive micro-wear in micro-grinding is very important to research the overall wear and the service life prediction of micro-grinding tool. The wear mechanism of electroplated diamond micro-grinding tool is analyzed. The geometric and mathematical modeling is founded in allusion to the main characteristics of the wear forms and the composite mechanism in micro- grinding zone. The mathematical model of microscopic abrasive wear is established by considering the minimum chip thickness and the size effect. Experiments with different parameters in micro-grinding soda-lime glass are carried out to confirm the validity of the model. The change laws of the worn micro-grinding tool are proposed by analyzing the diameter of grinding head, the proportion in the total abrasives of worn grits and crushed grits, and the surface roughness of the workpiece. The results of test show that the wear is more slowly with better surface quality. The diameter of grinding head fast and sharply decreases first, and then a slow and steady decrease. The wear rate and the proportion of worn grits and crushed grits increase with the increasing of the spindle speed and the feed rate, and the proportion has a linear trend integrally. Significant research theory and experimental reference are provided for improving the processing performance and increasing the service life of micro-grinding tool.
